  • Harvard University:
This study supports emerging evidence that the Israeli military has disregarded the protection of hospitals, mandated by international humanitarian law, through the systematic pattern of dropping massive M-84 bombs close enough to hospitals to knowingly cause significant damage, injury, and death ... The analysis also found the Israeli military air-dropped over one hundred 2000 lb bombs in the officially designated evacuation zone for civilians.

  • The New York Times:
During the first six weeks of the war in Gaza, Israel routinely used one of its biggest and most destructive bombs in areas it designated safe for civilians, according to an analysis of visual evidence by The New York Times.

  • Public Library of Science:
Of the 36 hospitals across the Gaza Strip, 25% (n = 9) had at least one bomb crater within the lethal range (360 m) and 83.3% (n = 30) within the infrastructure damage and injury range (800 m) of their facilities.  The shortest distance of a bomb crater from a hospital was 14.7 m.  Two hospitals had as many as 23 and 21 bomb craters within 800 m of their facilities and one hospital had seven bomb craters within 360 m.  Thirty-eight M-84 bombs were detonated within 800 m of hospitals in the Israeli military defined evacuation zone.

  • Public Library of Science:
The shattering of the bomb’s steel casting upon detonation shoots 1,000 lbs (453 kg) of white-hot steel fragments in all directions at 1.8 km (6,000 feet) per second; these flying fragments are lethal as far as 360 m (1,200 feet) away from the point of detonation and can travel further than a mile away.  The explosion creates a shock wave exerting thousands of pounds of pressure per square inch (psi) that can displace 10,000 lbs of dirt, forming a crater in the ground up to 15 m (50 feet) wide and 11 m (36 feet) deep.

  • The New York Times:
Times reporters manually reviewed the search results, looking for craters measuring roughly 40 feet across or larger.  Munitions experts say typically only 2,000-pound bombs form craters of that size in Gaza’s light, sandy soil.

The majority of double-decker buses in the UK are between 9.5 metres (31 ft 2 in) and 11.1 metres (36 ft 5 in) long, the latter being more common since the mid-1990s, though there are three-axle 12-metre (39-foot-4-inch) models in service with some operators.

  • United Nations Office of the High Commission for Human Rights::
The UN Human Rights Office has been verifying the personal details of those killed in Gaza by strikes, shelling and other conduct of hostilities. Of those fatalities, it has so far found close to 70 per cent to be children and women, indicating a systematic violation of the fundamental principles of international humanitarian law, including distinction and proportionality.

  • Al Jazeera:
[5 February 2025]  Authorities in Gaza have updated the death toll from Israel’s war on the enclave to 61,709, having added thousands who are missing and now presumed dead.  The head of the Gaza Government Information Office told a news conference that the bodies of 76 percent of the Palestinians killed in the conflict have been recovered and brought to medical centres.  However, at least 14,222 people are still believed to be trapped under the rubble or in areas inaccessible to rescuers.  Speaking at Gaza City’s al-Shifa Hospital, Salama Maarouf told reporters that among the death toll are 17,881 children, including 214 newborn infants.  “More than 2 million people have been forcibly displaced, some more than 25 times, under dire conditions lacking basic services,” the official added, noting that 111,588 people have also been injured.
